Klaipėda Ernests Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre implemented the sports project "WE ARE ACTIVE", funded by the Sports Support Fund, No. SRF-FAV-2020-1-0128.
This project was launched by the Ernesto Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre to address the problem of inactivity. The main objective of the project was to integrate physical activity into the daily life of the community by organising physical activity activities, thus improving the health of individuals and their quality of life.
The project targeted several different target groups - young people, adults and people with disabilities or special learning needs. Not only students and staff of the Ernests Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre, but also Klaipėda residents living near the training centre and members of communities and organisations from other educational institutions were invited to participate in the activities.
Project activities:
Project activities took place in several locations:
The project activities were implemented periodically from October 2021 to the end of June 2023. Due to the sufficiently long project implementation period, the variety of activities and the different locations where the project activities took place, the project managed to involve more than 250 people living in the municipalities of Klaipėda city, Klaipėda district, Kretinga district, Skuodas district, Šilutė district and Palanga city. All the participants of the project activities gained valuable knowledge about healthy lifestyle and had the opportunity to engage in regular physical activity at least 2 times a week (some of the participants took part in several different activities at the same time, which meant that they engaged in active physical activity 4 times a week). Thanks to the regular contact with the trainers and the advice given by the trainers after the activities, the participants developed a natural habit of physical activity.
The activities raised awareness among community members and residents about the benefits and health effects of physical activity. These activities were also aimed at promoting not only physical activity itself, but also at motivating people to be physically active, to move more and to take responsibility for improving their health. It is hoped that after the activities funded by the project have ended, the participants will continue to participate in physical activity activities at least 2 times a week, feeling healthier and more motivated to be active in their leisure time.
