Erasmus+ project No 2020-1-LT01-KA116-077752, “Improve in Europe”

Klaipėda Ernests Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre has successfully implemented the Erasmus+ funded project "Improve in Europe", project No 2020-1-LT01-KA116-077752.

Erasmus+
Main action: Learning mobility of individuals
Type of action: Mobility of vocational education and training learners and staff in accordance with the Vocational Training Mobility Charter
Project objectives:

  1. To improve students' vocational skills in order to improve the quality of vocational training at Klaipėda Ernests Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre, as well as to ensure better employability of future graduates.
  2. Improving the competences of teachers and staff.

More than 50 people took part in the project activities. 17 employees of Klaipėda Ernests Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre took part in week-long work observation visits to Spain, France, Greece, Cyprus and Malta. 35 students accompanied by staff from the training centre went to Cyprus, Spain, Poland, Greece, Italy, Estonia and Germany. In the foreign countries, students from the Finishing, Carpentry, Computer Aided Design Operator and Massage Therapist vocational training programmes undertook 3-4 week apprenticeships in real workplaces.

During the visits, employees gained knowledge of the latest technological processes, learned how to carry out modern technological operations, and tried their hand at working with different materials and equipment. By gaining new knowledge and experience, and learning about methods, learning and teaching trends in other countries, participants are able to deliver more varied and modernised lessons, and to attract and engage students in the teaching and learning process. The quality of lessons has improved; pupils' learning outcomes have improved. After returning from the monitoring visits, the staff of the training centre shared their experiences and new knowledge gained in other EU countries with the community of the training centre and with colleagues from other educational institutions in methodological groups, seminars and open lessons.

Discussions, exchanges of experiences and good practices encourage lifelong learning and increase students' motivation to learn and develop. Exposure to new teaching methods, practical applications of knowledge and technologies also increases students' employability. After returning from their training placements, the students shared their experiences in other EU countries with the Centre's community.

The hope is that, over time, the number of pupils who do not progress or drop out of school will decrease. Pupils will learn more creatively, develop their entrepreneurial spirit, become more career-oriented and more competitive in the labour market. For pupils, it is important that teachers provide information about other countries and cultures, based on personal experience, and apply the practices of organising learning acquired abroad.
